Every January the Lord gives a theme for the year. This isn’t a resolution, but a direction for us as a body of Believers to move in. Every January people make New Years Resolutions only to find them being left behind by February if not sooner. Why? Because people try to change by sheer willpower, but willpower is no match for distractions, impatience and our humanness. But those of us who know Jesus as our Savior and Lord, no longer have to rely on our own power, for we have the power of Holy Spirit living in us. That same power that raised Jesus from the dead. This year our theme is Expanding our Tents a year to grow in the Lord and expand our influence.
However, many Believers know Jesus as their Savior, but live powerless lives because they don’t draw on the power that lives inside of them. Often Believers wonder why their lives seem so limited, why prayers aren’t answered, why they seem powerless. The truth is the power is there, we just don’t know how to access it and use it, not for ourselves, but so we can fulfill the call and purpose on our lives.
When we read today’s verse, we wonder how we can accomplish that when we have so many limitations and hindrances. But that is the thinking of this world, God has created us to never stop growing, developing and expanding our influence for Jesus. And when we learn how to access and use the gifts, skills and abilities Jesus has given us we can grab hold of this verse and expand our thinking, to pray God size prayers, not only know, but believe that nothing is impossible with God. When we realize we already have everything we need for Holy Spirit to work in and through us, we will find ourselves expanding and so will our prayers and dreams to accomplish His will in our lives.
