Then Jesus said, “I am light to the world, and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light, and they will never walk in darkness.” John 8:12 TPT
Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day. Sunlight is amazing, the light just makes you want to get up and do things, it makes you want to smile and just drink it in. Then there is the warmth, in the morning the sun lays on the back of my house and it was actually getting hot, until I had to go out front, in the shade and it felt cold with the wind blowing. I did what I had to do and quickly returned to the light and warmth on the deck.
On cloudy or rainy days, we experience just the opposite. It’s almost like our get up and go, got up and went. It makes you slow and maybe even wanting to take a nap. It often feels cold and damp and you remember and long for those warm sunny days. Lack of sunlight can cause depression, anxiety, Vitamin D deficiancy, sleep disturbances, weaken bones, cause skin issues and even cause weight gain just to name a few. To say sulight is essential seems to be an understatement.
Today’s verse reminds us the truth that light is life giving, especially when Jesus is that light. He is the light that will never be extinguished no matter how hard the enemy tries. Notice this translation tells us in order to receive this life giving light we need to embrace the Light Giver and when we do we will never walk in darkness. What a wonderful thought that is on one of those dark cloudy days to be reminded that we have the life giving Light of Jesus living inside of us. We can sit in His presence and enjoy the warmth and His Light no matter when, where or what time. Jesus made this all possible by rising from the dead so that when light stands next to darkness, light will always win!
