Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[a]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. 1 Peter 5:8 AMPC
As I was walking yesterday morning with my dogs, I looked into the beautiful blue sky and as the sunshine warmed my face, I couldn’t help but praise God for the beautiful weather. But then my eyes returned to earth and saw the brown grass as it crunched under my feet and felt the dry hard ground and remembered we were into a drought.
And then it hit me, although we may enjoy those beautiful sunny, cloudless skies, if they last too long we begin to lack a very important life sustaining element, water. Not only humans can live a few days without water, but our entire eco system needs it to function and survive. I guess it is true that too much of a good thing isn’t good at all, the Bible confirms it in today’s verse. If we have too much of anything it becomes destructive and isn’t that what Satan is always seeking to do in every way possible. If he can keep us focused on the nice weather and how much better it is for the sun to shine in crystal blue skies than to have storm clouds bring rain, we find ourselves after awhile in a very dangerous place, low on our water supply.
But when we keep our eyes on Jesus, we can see the benefit of the rain too and will begin to see God in all His perfect wisdom and glory and we will be able to praise Him as much in the times of rain or even snow as we do when the sun is shinning. Don’t let the enemy convince you that life is so much better when everything is going our way, for how would we know and enjoy the good times, if there never was any bad times. Especially since we know that all good things comes from God (James 1:17) and that which was meant for evil God turns into good, for the salvation of many (Genesis 50:20) or all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Next time you find yourself in unwanted circumstances or an unexpected crisis, remember to live a well balanced life that helps us grow in our relationship with Jesus, it is necessary to have the rain as well as the sun.
