Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation. I will listen [with expectancy] to what God the Lord will say, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints (those who are in right standing with Him)—but let them not turn again to [self-confident] folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, [and is ready to be appropriated] that [the manifest presence of God, His] glory may tabernacle and abide in our land. Psalm 85:6-9 AMPC
Once we realize our need for revival, we know it will only begin when we pray and ask the Lord to fan into flame once again the gift of His salvation and His Spirit that now lives in us. But asking is only one side of prayer, which by the way we become very good at. The other side is listening which is a bit more difficult. But it also is the side that draws us closer to and deepens our relationship with Him. Today’s passage shows us the waterfall of revival that comes from going beyond asking.
Seeking and asking the Lord for revival places us in the position of listening, where we find our total dependence on Him and not to rely on ourselves. In His presence we then find worship of Him becoming a way of life rather than just an action. We see how awesome He truly is and that without Him we truly can do nothing. It is His Spirit living inside us waiting to flow through us so others will see how amazing He is and His longing for others to come to know Him as their Savior and Lord. How appropriate is the end of this verse which reminds us that revival places us in a position for Him to meet (tabernacle) with us once again and abide in our land. May we remember the power of listening and the transforming power of being in His presence as we seek not only revival but a nation wide awakening.
