Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua 1:8
Can you believe it’s September 2, Labor Day when most people think summer is officially over. Although it’s not until September 22, but things have shifted back to a routine with school beginning. It’s also a new month, and yesterday we started a Scripture Challenge, so for the next 30 days everyone is encouraged to pick a verse, write it down, perhaps in a notebook or on an index card. Then meditate on it throughout the day, and as you end the day think about all the ways it influenced, worked and helped you.
Scripture itself describes the Word as a lamp, light, health and strength to our bones, our daily bread, alive and sharper than a two edged sword, God-breathed useful for teaching and correcting, and when it’s sent out it always accomplishes its purpose. And these are just to name a few. That’s why it’s so important to make it a part of our lives, not just a thing to just read or memorize, but as Romans 10:8 says, “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”. The way to accomplish that is to meditate on it. But because of how the word meditation was used in the 1960’s and 1970’s, the church began to shy away from using it.
But meditation is exactly what God Himself intended it to be, which in the Hebrew is to contemplate, think about something for a long time, to utter. And there is nothing better to contemplate, think about and utter than the Word of God. When we do, it begins to transform us from the inside out in ways we never may have imagined. We encourage you to join us on this Challenge as we look forward to experiencing it’s transforming power.
