Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
Today is Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when shoppers are all revved up for those big amazing buys to fill all those Christmas Stockings and places under the tree. They look forward to this all year long, they scan the stores online ads and papers for the best buys and their prize gift ideas. I remember as a kid the paper boys always complaining about how heavy the Black Friday papers were and they were glad it only came once a year.
After perusing the ads, people still line up hours before the stores open in any kind of weather so they can be the first to burst through the doors. They’re like lasers on their targets and will fight for the golden ring so to speak. They’ll go to any length to get what they want, defy every obstacle, overcome every hindrance to fill their carts with their treasures. Then they rush home to check their receipts to see how much money they saved and often begin to wrap their presents,
So, what if we sought after God the way people seek out their Christmas gifts. Excuses would be a thing of the past, it wouldn’t matter what the weather was doing, or how long it took to get there. You’d get to church early to have the best seat, even if you had to stand outside for hours. You’d study the Bible so you would know exactly what to do when your were presented with an issue or circumstance. Nothing would be great enough to stop you from gaining the treasure you desire to have Jesus as your Savior and Lord. And you got to do it every week!
I know you’re at least smiling by this time just from thinking about it. But don’t you wonder why we go to such lengths to find gifts for others at a bargain price, yet rarely give the greatest Gift this world has ever known a second thought. Why not today and at least until Christmas decide to read His Word, seek Him out to talk with Him, seek His advice and guidance. Meet with other Believers so we help one another grow and then pray together to see our requests answered as only He can.
