“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Matthew 13:44
In the early hours of this morning, shoppers were searching through newspapers and online to find the best Black Friday Deals. It’s like being on a treasure hunt, first you hunt for what you want and where to get it. Then you go to the first store that has the things you want the most and wait for them to open, and the “gold rush” is on! People running over one another. fighting over things because it’s the last one. The lines are long, yet there is an energy as shoppers find their Christmas treasures to keep until Christmas Day. Then on to the next store to do it all over again.
If only we would get that excited over searching the Scriptures. Truth is we can when we begin to see the Scriptures as treasures that need to be searched for and revealed. Some people say they don’t know what to read. One of the greatest solutions for that is to look for verses and passages that are about something we’re going through, it could be financial, emotional, physical or relational, for the Bible holds all the answers to life and how to live it. We just need to search for its treasures and once we find them we need to embrace them and make them our own.
The best way to make scripture our own is to meditate on them. Mull them over in our minds, speak them out with our voice and eventually declare them because we believe what they say. Reading and meditating on Scripture actually changes us Physiologically, because His words speak to our mind, body and spirit. God’s Word is powerful and is more valuable than anything on this earth and keeps us connected to heaven. So tonight as you lay your head down on the pillow and say one thing you are thankful for and declare a verse like Psalm 107:1 making it personal, Lord I thank you for You are so good to me, and Your love for me will endure forever.
Remember, Thanksgiving Day might be over for another year, but today begins another year of giving thanks with a grateful heart every day.
