For I will pour out water to quench your thirst
and to irrigate your parched fields.
And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants,
and my blessing on your children. Isaiah 44:3
Over the past few weeks I have watched the grass begin to turn brown and crunch when I walk on it. My Purslane plants that are drought hardy aren’t looking very perky and the flowers hardly open up. Because they are crawling plants, they are literally hanging over the containers looking like they’re searching for water. The ground is hard, everything is dusty and my car could use a wash every day.
But last evening everything changed, the refreshing rains came and within a few hours the grass was green and pliable the plants were perking up and the ground was moist once again. And as a if God was saying you’re welcome there was a beautiful double rainbow in the sky. As I walked with the dogs and looked at all the beauty around me and the beautiful colors against a blue sky that replaced the gray sky all I could say was: Lord, You’re doing the same thing to our nation and around the world.
No more “mercy drops” as the hymn says, there are showers and even downpours of blessing falling all around us. And as wonderful as the revival and awakening that is coming from them is, we need to take advantage of the opportunities they are opening up for us. But we need to keep ourselves under the refreshing showers by spending time in the Lord’s presence so that we can continue to minister to one another and all those we meet, live and work with. This is such an exciting time, so let’s make the most of every opportunity to enjoy life and celebrate it with others.
