“We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” Hebrews 2:1
The other week I was in the bank drive thru and there was a car in front of me. So I took the time to get my check and deposit slip out of my purse. When I looked up, it seemed like I was going backwards, and I was! My foot was still on the break, but light enough that I was drifting backwards.
After I stopped all I could do was thank God that no one was behind me. As I pulled back up to the window I was glad to see the teller had walked away and didn’t see me. At this point I was chuckling about what just happened, but on the way home I thought about how easy it was to be drifting backwards before I even noticed and how the same thing can happen spiritually. It doesn’t take much, just a little refocusing on the things of this world and off we go.
With all of the media outlets these days and all the negative news, we can hear and see information that takes our eyes off of Jesus, and breeds fear and discouragement. It happens a little at the time, at first we think it’s not affecting us, but once we feel the fear, we’ve drifted father away than we thought. But praise God, he’s always there just waiting for us to call out to Him to rescue us. And He not only listens, but comes alongside and helps us with a course correction. What a good Father and Savior we have. So if you find yourself drifting from His safety and peace, just call out His name and you will see Him show up.
