“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:19-20
With the news that Russia has invaded Ukraine, many are worried wondering what is going to happen. Chat rooms are busy with speculations and even Christians are wringing their hands and beleieving this is the beginning of the end. But let me ask you a question, what good is that doing for the Ukranian people? We can watch it on every type of media, and shake our heads, but where are our hearts? Our hearts should be breaking for them, and our compassion should be praying for them.
Look at today’s verse, it says if just 2 people are in agreement God will hear us and show up. So why aren’t we calling one another and praying? Maybe it’s because we don’t know what to pray. I mean we can pray for the invasion to stop, but then the enemy wants to remind us we are living in the end times, so what good would it do. Well, let’s think bigger, let’s start praying out of the box. Let’s pray for God to be God and scatter His enemies (Ps. 68:1)!
The Ukranian Christians are imploring their brothers and sisters all over the world to join them in prayer, for God to show up so that all the world will know His mighty power. After all He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). A great way to learn how God fights for His people facing literal, war read the battle accounts in the Old Testament. Many times they didn’t even need to fight, because God confused the enemy and they fought themselves, or His angels appeared and scattered the enemy, or He just gave supernatural ability for the lesser army to overrun the greater.
Let’s pray as Moses did as the Israelites were ready to cross the Red Sea, Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord! And stand on 2 Chronicles 20:17 when the Lord Himself spoke and said stand still and watch the Lord’s victory! People God has showed up in battle over and over again, even in these modern times.
Let’s continue to pray for wisdom and discernment not only for the Ukranian military, but for the rest of the world to send them what they need to take a stand against this evil. Yes, pray Psalm 91 protection, but also pray for God to lead us in how we can help. And while we’re praying and then following Holy Spirit’s leading, let us wait with great expectation to see how God will bring His glory and victory to this!
