The Lord is my light and my salvation—
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life—
Whom shall I dread? Psalm 27:1 AMP
I love butterflies, because to the Believer they are a symbol of a new life and a reminder of resurrection power. Something I need to be reminded of often, because it helps me remember God’s amazing grace and how He still is transforming me into His beautiful image.
So when I saw an article about how a butterflies wings are for more than just flying I couldn’t help but read it. Their wings actually have scales on them that help regulate their body temperature so they can fly. See, they can only fly when the temperature is between 60 – 108 dgrees with the optimal temperature being between 82 – 100 degrees.
Too often they need to “energize” their body heat and they do this by laying on something light colored or on leaves and spread their wings to absorb the heat from the sun. They do this so well that scientists are actually studying their light processing to improve solar energy and make it more efficient.
After I read it, today’s verse came to mind. Just like the butterfly can’t fly or even live for that matter without the light from the sun, neither can we without the light of our Salvation Jesus. In His presence we can feel the warmth of His love and become energized once again and absorb and reflect His light into this cold and dying world.
We have nothing to fear or dread, no matter how bad things seem to get, because He is our light refuge and fortress. Like the butterfly we might appear delicate and weak, but every Believer has the greatest power known to man living inside of them to overcome the troubles and problems of this world. Let’s spread our wings, to the light and beauty of God, then fly high and lift others up and show them the amazing grace of Jesus.
