In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. Colossians 2:15
The other day I heard a new rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. And although I have never really liked that carol for some reason that day the words “to save us all from Satan’s power” jumped out at me. I don’t know if it was because it was sung in a more positive and upbeat way, or just Holy Spirit deciding it was time that I took note of that phrase like I never have before.
Jesus opened the way for us to experience being reconciled back to into a relationship with God as our Father and be joint heirs with Him. To forgive us of our sins and empower us with resurrection power to overcome the enemy. And all of that was accomplished because He was willing to be born for the specific reason to die to make a way of salvation for all mankind, It makes me wonder what kind of love is that, to be willing to die for the very people who would crucify Him. And for those in the past and future who will deny Him, blaspheme Him, mock and curse Him, yet He still loves them and longs for them to make their way back to Him.
I don’t think we’ll truly understand that kind of love this side of heaven. But if every once in a while it makes us take a step back and be in awe and wonder of how much He loves us, then maybe we should do it more often. And Christmas is the perfect time to allow ourselves to experience His love and share it with others and watch the true meaning of Christmas unfold.
