But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you—then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done. John 15:7 TPT
Most people love the last part of this verse, the only problem is they miss the word then. That word means there is some important information prior to the asking. As I was studiying this verse I found out our English language makes understanding the true meaning of this verse difficult.
The first part is easy to understand, Jesus is telling us we need to live in a relationship with Him so He can lift us up with His love and we can draw life from Him and develop so that we can live productive lives. The second part, tells us that we need to have more than just a relationship. Here the My words in the Greek is rhema, which means the spoken word of God. Next is the word powerful, here the word powerfully is an Aramaic word which can be translated “My words take hold (are strong) within you”.
There is a big difference between just reading or saying words and truly believing and following them. When we choose to believe His words they actually take hold of us, they begin to transform us and make us strong in the Lord. When that happens our desires begin to change and so our asking changes also. What we ask for is aligned with God and His will. We begin to see things happen and prayers getting answered. I like to say it’s like synching our devices, only this synching is a spiritual one and being connected with God is more amazing than any program we can think of. Don’t just read the word, let it take hold and let it read you and you will never be the same again!
