For Caleb, though, it’s a different matter. He’s distinct from the others by having a different spirit and has followed My lead wholeheartedly. I will make sure that he is able to enter the land and to live in it—he and his descendants after him. Numbers 14:24 VOICE
As we continue to step into our vision and mission this year of Enabling Grace we are finding how Holy Spirit enables us to show grace to the world around us. Mary and Martha, David and his mighty men and Esther all showed us that we can serve the kingdom of God in our own power. But only through the enablment of Holy Spirit can we truly serve the King. Sarah and Haggar showed us that in the natural we may be able to make something happen. Like Haggar conceiving Ishmael in the natural way under their own power. But only by the supernatural power of God will it accomplish more than we could ever imagine. Sarah and Abraham conceived Isaac in the natural way, but in their old age only by God’s power. Then the account that Joshua and Caleb both were the only spies who saw the land could be conquered. But only Caleb kept holding onto the promise of land God gave him and enjoyed his life with God doing it. Joshua grew old, but Caleb kept living in the youthfulness of God.
Today’s Scripture tells us that Caleb had a different spirit, so what was that spirit? In Numbers 14 he tells the people not to rebel against the Lord and not to be afraid of the people there, because the Lord was protecting them. As a matter of fact they would be food for the Israelites. From today’s verse, we see he followed the Lord wholeheartedly. Later in Joshua 14:10 he reminds Joshua that it is the Lord that has kept him alive and well as He had promised. Notice everything is directed to God, He has been the center of Calebs life through the good and the bad times, Caleb always believed God would keep His promise and kept persevering. Because of His belief in God and His promises, just like Abraham, he remained youthful to receive his inheritance for him and his children.
We need to ask ourselves, is Jesus involved in everything, work, church, secular activities, etc? Have we been still and quiet long enough to even know what He has promised us? Do we see the obstacles in our way as only fuel to use to see the promise fulfilled? Bottom line, do we make Jesus the Center of our lives or do we get distracted by everything else around us? Let’s go for that “different spirit” that Caleb had where Jesus is our everything so we can see and experience all His promises fulfilled in our lives.
