Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord
who minister by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
and praise the Lord. Psalm 134:1-2
Lifting your hands in the sanctuary, that’s what the Word of God tells us to do. Yet so many people have a difficult time doing that because they were taught to be “reverent” in church. However it’s in Scripture because it has benefits that most people aren’t aware of. But we are fearfully and wonderfully made and are bodies were created to worship the Lord.
Physically amazing things happen when we lift our hands. As our hands are raised our blood begins to flow and pump because the blood is forced back to our hearts where it circulates more oxygen to our internal organs and every cell in our bodies. It allows our Lymphatic System begins to function correctly and our swelling in our bodies is reduced. It’s like our minds and bodies are resetting and we feel alive and energized.
Spiritually goes way beyond the physical, When we lift our hands in praise and worship there is a shift, we place ourselves in a position of surrender and dependence on God. It activates the victory that already has been won for us through Jesus. Think about it, In Exodus 17 when Moses lifted up his hands the Israelites were winning, but when his hands went down the Amalekites were winning and in the end, Israel was victorious.
Are you longing to see victory and breakthrough in your life? Are you beginning to feel hopeless in some areas? Are you becoming complacent in your worship? Is your relationship with Jesus growing distant and cold? Then lift up your hands and praise the Lord and as you raise your hands in surrender, remember they are also now in position to receive from the One who died to give you an abundant life.
