So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. Luke 2:6
Christmas Eve, a day different than any other day. Why? Because it’s the day the world celebrates the birth of its Savior. Although we don’t know the exact date of Jesus’ birth, the early church chose to celebrate it on December 25 for many reasons. One of them is because it is a light during the time the earth experiences the least amount of daylight. And Jesus coming into this world, brought a light that never can be extinguished (John 1:5). Because of this it’s a time that the world slows down, there is almost a reset in the earth to replenish itself of what has been depleted.
If you take time to slow down, even in our modern society, you will see as Christmas Eve turns from day to night, there seems to be a calm, quiet and peace that settles over the world. I like to believe it’s God reminding us that after 400 years of Him being silent, He spoke in a way that only could be heard by those who chose to stop, turn their eyes towards Him and listen. And those that do will experience the wonder, excitement and awe of the birth of His Son, the Savior of the world.
I encourage you today to take some time this evening to slow down and notice how it seems that God is blanketing us with the peace that He was sending to change everything because He was once again ready to not only speak with us again, but to come and live with us to show us His heart.
