See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8
Have you ever watched as nature showed the glory and supremacy of God? In the twilight of the morning the sky is clear, the stars and moon were shinning and there’s a nip in the air. But by 7 AM, there is a much different picture. A mist is settling in the valley like white ribbons through green velvet. Soon the mist now covers almost everything. Water droplets from on window screens and railings are dripping water. Only silhouettes of trees and cornstalks can be seen and the sun is a veiled glowing ball in the sky. It is eerily beautiful, but as quickly as it came, it passsed to reveal a bright blue sky, everything looked brighter and cleaner and the air had a fresh clean aroma.
All we can do is marvel at what had just transpired. This is exactly how deception works. It veils the truth so you can see a hint of it, but it is difficult to see. All the lines get blurred and what the image truly is, gets more and more difficult to discern. Although there is light, it’s dull and produces no warmth. And just like the mist, as it lifted, objects became more discernable. There is a warmth of comfort, a cleansing has happened and there and crisp clean scent left behind.
Heed today’s verse, don’t be deceived by what you see and hear. if you can’t see Jesus in it. Man made traditions and philosophies can’t stand up to the standards of God. If you rely on them, you will be left with a veiled perception and hollow feeling that only Jesus can fill. Make sure what you are standing on aligns itself with the word of God, His principles and precepts.
