You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24
Years ago my daughter had to have her gall bladder removed. Although a bit apprehensive, she just wanted to feel well again. Everyone was telling her how much better she was going to feel, and she was ready to get this thing done. The surgery went well and the surgeon said her gall bladder was filled with stones. She was in recover y and once she came out of the anesthesia they would bring her back.
About an hour later , they rolled her in. She looked at me and said “this was a bad idea, it hurts, do something!” I felt some mixed emothions, as her mom I wanted to take her pain away, but in reality I knew that wasn’t possible and needed to give her comfort and encouragement. Her body was going through a change, something that was causing her pain and discomfort had been removed and in the process, it hurt even more, but in a different way.
That’s how it is with living for Christ, When we make Him our Lord and Savior, He now instructs us to be obedient to Him and His word. We need to change some things in our lives to make that happen. These bad habits, our of control emotions and just plain sin need to go. And becuase they have been so much a part of our lives, it hurts! We don”t think about the pain they cause us on a daily basis, we just want to avoid the pain of change.
By that evening she was feeling better and glad she had the surgery. What pain causing thing do you need to cut out of your life? We all have something. And it’s not impossible, it has been proven that any habit can be broken if we don’t practice it for at least 21 days. It’s up to you, you have a choice; either a lifetime of pain, or 21 days of healing pain to free yourself from it.
