“The Father is the one who sets the fixed dates and the times of their fulfillment. You are not permitted to know the timing of all that he has prepared by his own authority. But I promise you this—the Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will be filled with power. And you will be my messengers to Jerusalem, throughout Judea, the distant provinces—even to the remotest places on earth!” Right after he spoke those words, the disciples saw Jesus lifted into the sky and disappear into a cloud! Acts 1:7-9
Over 2000 years ago, Jesus left this earth in the hands of His disciples. Imagine, the Son of God leaving His legacy to be continued in the hands of a group of men and women who were far from perfect. Yet He knew if He would stay, it would only stunt their spiritual growth. They had grown to rely on Him to do things for them even though they had the power to do it for themselves. On at least two occasions He told them He was empowering them to do the impossible, yet they just didn’t get it. Now before we get too judgmental, we have to admit we’re a lot like them.
It wasn’t until He wasn’t with them in person that the Holy Spirit could come and fill them. See, they thought, Jesus wasn’t there anymore, now He was asking them to do what He did and the only way that would happen was, to do it! Once they saw and experienced the power of Holy Spirit through the wind and tongues of fire did they accept Him whole heartedly.
We too often forget the power that dwells within us because when we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, nothing happened. No wind, no fire, no feeling different, nothing. Perhaps we forget that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father today, so that we can receive Holy Spirit’s power to do even greater things than Jesus when He walked this earth. That as He is now seated, His power has been transferred to us through Holy Spirit so we can continue to build His Kingdom here and do on earth as it is in heaven! If you have asked Jesus to be your Savior and Lord, then today, thank Jesus for going back to heaven and being seated at the right hand of the Father, so His power can fill us and empower us to do what is left undone, to seek and save those who are lost and become His disciples.
