Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. Luke 2:52
We basically have been taught that favor is anything that is good positive in your life and, it can be. But according to Scripture it can also be what we see as a problem or a negative. The bottom line is that is an incomplete teaching, because it’s describing favor as something you earn when you do something good or right as it was with the Law. But Jesus has fulfilled the Law and we are now living under His grace, which in Greek is the word Charis, which also means favor. A gift from God that is unearned and unmerited. nothing of ourselves, everything about Jesus.
Today’s verse reminds us that Jesus had favor with God and man, and yet, there were many people who didn’t like Him. As a matter of fact so much so they wanted to kill Him! And it was Holy Spirit that led Him into the desert and for God to allow Him to suffer and die, so that our sins could be forgiven and we can truly live!
So many of the heroes in the Bible were walking in the favor of God, yet had to go through a lot of not so good things. But those down times were times of preparation, learning to hear from God, building trust and helping others, just to name a few. Nothing has changed, God still works the same way in those who have accepted Him as Savior and Lord. So when we’re facing a down time, embrace it, seek Holy Spirit to reveal to you what God is working in you and the situation. And grow in His grace and favor, because favor from God can’t be earned because it’s part of your salvation. So watch God turn what was meant for evil into something good beyond our wildest hopes and dreams.
