Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage. Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious. Ephesians 6:12-13
The other morning I was putting my makeup on when I got distracted by an injured groundhog in my yard. Until I got outside, he was gone. I don’t know how, he was moving so slowly. So I thought maybe he went into the barn. So I searched both barns, but I couldn’t find him. So I went back inside and realized I was going to be late. I quickly grabed what I needed and was out the door. I was out and about, talking with people and enjoying the day. On the way home though I felt like I had something in my eye, when I looked in the rearview mirror, I began to laugh. I only had makeup on the one eye! See I got distracted when I was putting it on, realized I was running late and began my day, half way prepared. For the rest of the day I would break up laughing, thinking about what people must have thought. But as my day was slowing down and had my nightly reflection time, my mind shifted as I thought about today’s Scripture and us putting on the whole armor of God.
God provides it, but we have to put it on. And putting it on is so important that it’s mentioned twice, in verse 11 and 13. Now the big question is how many of us do that? If there ever was a time we needed spiritual armor, this is it. We need to be covered from the tops of our heads to the souls of our feet! Every piece protects us and each one needs to be put on by reading and declaring the word of God. Over the next few days we will pick up and put on each piece and learn how important they truly are, so we don’t go out only partially dressed.
