I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Rev. 22:13
In our Growth Groups (Wednesday nights) Bible Study, we have been studying the Names and Titles of Jesus. Although all His Names are amazing and tell us so much about Him, this last one in this study is truly mind blowing. Last night we studied Jesus the Alpha and Omega. It’s a familiar Name and title even to those who are not Believers. It seems to be a cut and dry name, sort of like bookends holding everything else in, the Beginning and the End. But this Name is deep, very deep and yet it is beautifully simple.
I asked what they thought of when they heard that God is the Beginning. The most common response was creation. Then I added; but there is so much more, as the Alpha, God is stating that everything began with Him and without Him nothing would exist. Including mercy, grace, justice, wisdom, power, kindness, goodness, forgiveness, etc. How does that change your view of things? The wheels began to turn, the discussion became seemingly endless questions that resulted in answers only found in Scripture that led to more questions. The entire atmosphere was energized as we thought and talked about our amazing supernatural God and how He encompasses all things.
Then I said, “He also calls Himself the Omega, the end. Which we just discussed how He is the beginning, but He also said He is the End and He never dies then it also speaks of His Eternal state. So then what does it mean that He is the End? What happened next was one of those “spiritual lightbulb moments” when as we discussed it, the reality of His end is only the next beginning, and as our Eternal God, then those who accept Jesus, accept Him and eternal life and we too will have a new beginning with Him in heaven for all eternity. And almost like a choir, everyone said His End is only a new Beginning!
This is true not only for all eternity, but right now. Our lives are full of endings, but living a life with Jesus makes it also full of new beginnings. In Revelation 21:5, Jesus states that He is the One who makes all things new. What ending are you facing in life? It may be a job, a child graduating and leaving for college in the fall, an unwanted move, a relationship, a health issue, etc. Whatever it is, Jesus our Alpha and Omega is waiting for you to look to Him for your new beginning. Don’t ever doubt it, when you are in a relationship with Him there is no end, only a beautiful new beginning.
You may be asking how do I have a realtionship with Him? The beginning is to realize how much you need Him in your life, and open your heart up and accept that He came to earth to die for you, so your sins are washed away, so everything becomes new. It’simple, nothing “to do”, but receive that He died for forgiveness of your sins on the cross and believe and trust in your heart that by His grace and mercy He is now your Savior and Lord and will help you live an overcoming life. If you have prayed this prayer, please send us an e-mail and let us know, so we can pray for you and help you in your new life’s journey.
