And we no longer see each other in our former state—Jew or non-Jew, rich or poor, male or female—because we’re all one through our union with Jesus Christ with no distinction between us. Galatians 3:28 TPT
When the framers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution met together to state the foundations of this new nation there were many discussions, disagreements, misunderstandings, ways of life and different beliefs. But today’s verse was one they could all take hold of no matter what, because they all wanted this new nation to be united. This didn’t mean everyone had to think alike, far from it, they wanted everyone to have the right to freedom of speech with respect towards one another. They were calling for Americans to be united in that everyone would be given the same opportunities, rights and privileges to everyone. They wanted a place where everyone who dreamed of a better life free of oppression and tyranny would find it.
It is that same mindset that came forth in Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech in 1963, he and other black people were not experiencing that, but because of what our founding fathers penned, he had a dream that it still could be. He said “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”‘ And if we are true followers of Jesus Christ this should be our dream and heart also.
Today we are celebrating the 244th birthday of the United States in a much different way than ever before. We are a very fractured nation looking to form “a more perfect union”. And as impossible as it might seem right now, we need to remember that all things are possible with God. Let us today, stand on the principles that helped form this great yet imperfect nation. Let’s pray for deception is destroyed and the truth shall be revealed and bring about the nation that was envisioned one of freedom, opportunity, equality, justice and peace for ALL Americans. Happy 4th of July!
