When I needed the Lord, I looked for Him;
I called out to Him, and He heard me and responded.
He came and rescued me from everything that made me so afraid. Psalm 34:4 VOICE
Yesterday I witnessed fear out of control. When we’re afraid, our perception is totally out of focus, our judgment is hindered and thought processes go awry. The fear I saw was coming from an impending snowstorm. Now I live in the Northeast, so snow is something I grew up with and it wasn’t to be feared, it was something to prepare for and then deal with it. It’s temporary and in time it will literally melt away. But as almost everything, people’s perceptions of snow have changed.
For example, grocery stores become raped and pillaged. There is little, if no milk on the shelves, as well as the bread aisle. Really, if you don’t drink milk any other time, why is it so important when it snows? Carts are filled with food like they have no food and are going to be confined to their homes for weeks. Don’t they eat any other time? But here was my favorite when I went to get gas at Costco on my usual day, the lines were unreal. So I thought I’d go late in the evening, guess what? There were still lines. So here’s the point. If you have to get enough food to last you for weeks, why do you need gas in your car? Because you’re not going anywhere, right? I mean you believe you’re going to be confined to your house. Someone said they were shopping to prepare for power outages, good point, but how are you going to make all those meals without electric or gas?
Today’s verse speaks to what we should do when we are afraid, call on the Lord, for He knows things we don’t. He not only can lead and guide us to make wise decisions, but He also has gives us back the peace that fear is stealing from us. His peace that He gives every Believer counters the fear, anxiety and worry. Instead it calms our spirits, helps us think clearly that helps us make the best preparations. Beloved of God, let’s not be like the world running around in the darkness, we need to remember we are now the light to the world that can never be extinguished. Let’s help others see what faith and trust in God can do when a crisis or trouble hits. If this snow storm does come, remember those of us who live in the Northeast and are reading this have survived worst storms than this and we don’t even remember them!
