For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 1 Corinthians 11:29-30
When we think about Communion we usually think about what Jesus said to His disciples at the Last Supper. It was then He instituted it so that when we would partake it we would remember Him and His sacrifice for us. He bought Salvation for all who would accept Him and not only give them eternal life but an abundant life here on earth. That abundant life includes healing everywhere we can [possibly be hurt and wounded.
Paul tells us that there was a problem in the early church with sickness, weakness and death. And then he gives us the reason and the cure. It is happening because these new Believers in their joy of observing the Lord’s Supper, they were forgetting what it was truly about, Jesus’ death and resurrection. And when they did remember, they didn’t observe the purpose of the bread and the purpose of the wine and when combined together they form a power meal that makes the impossible, possible.
So many are sick, dealing with all different kinds of diseases and addictions, depression and the walking emotionally wounded. Paul tells us the way to healing and divine health is through Communion. When we take the bread and see Jesus giving his body up for us, taking on every kind of disease and sickness, carrying our cares and anxieties. Those wounds of betrayal, rejection and things others have done to us He took them all upon Himself and hung on the cross. Then we need to see ourselves healed because Jesus paid the price with His stripes.
When we take the cup of the New Covenant we see Jesus shedding His precious blood so all our sins, past, present and future forgiven forever. We are cleansed by His blood, renewed and reconciled back to our Father and now we are the righteousness of Him through Christ Jesus! Now our healing can be received because we believe in the Healer and have an intimate relationship with Him. Jesus told us that every time we partake the bread and the cup we are to remember Him, so let’s take it often and remember it is from Him that all blessings flow!
