Since you are all set apart by God, made holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a holy way of life: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12 The Voice
As I read this verse I kept thinking how much now more than ever we need to live it out. Look at how it begins, with the word since, meaning because or reason for, immediately we are given a purpose. But before we are given that purpose, we are told we are made holy. Do you see that we are made holy by our saving relationship with Jesus who by the power of Holy Spirit we are now uncommon. Our holiness doesn’t come by what we do or don’t do, but by accepting Jesus as our Savior and Lord. We are no longer common, we have the power that rose Jesus from the dead living inside of us! Why, because He loves us. So much so, He was willing to lay down His life so we can live.
Then it goes on to remind us that because of Jesus’ sacrificial love we are to clothe ourselves with everything Jesus is and without Him we are not. Only through the Gospels can we see how Jesus lived out every one of these in His daily life and we can see how each one in action transformed peoples hearts and minds. So then, how can we not see the news with the devastation of Helene and have compassion on all those who laid in her wake. How can we not be humbled by the thought of how truly awesome God is. When we become aware of the cruelty, horror and perversion of Human Trafficking and the brokenness of its victims as we gently lead them to Jesus to find healing everywhere they hurt. And how can we not be patient with those who still don’t know Jesus and don’t think like those who have regenerated hearts. Especially when we consider how patient He still is with us. People, the world needs us more than we can ever know this side of heaven.
