Now may God, the fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope! Romans 15:13 TPT
Hal Lindsey once said, “Man can live about 40 days without food, about three days without water about eight minutes without air. . . but only one minute without hope.” Hope, it’s something you can’t see, earn or buy, but we sure can feel when we don’t have it and know how much we need it.
Hope gives us purpose, a reason to keep going. It helps us become more patient, stronger, creative, determined and persistent. If you think not, then think about a time you were hoping for something. Waiting to receive it seemed impossible, you became impatient and disappointed at times; yet you endured. And when you received it, it was a wonderful feeling, like everything was going to be perfect now. But all too soon, it grew familiar, dull and stale and you began to feel empty, bored and unhappy. You began hoping for something else. And so the cycle goes.
Why? Hope is exciting, because you use your imagination, you dream of what it will be like to finally have this desire of your heart. Jesus told us that in order to truly know Him we need to become like a little child. To have wide-eyed wonder about things again. To have such trust that you believe anything can happen even the impossible and it doesn’t matter what others think or say, you can achieve it! That’s how God wants us to see Him, because with Him truly all things are possible. To be amazed at how much He loves us and is interested in our lives. That the same God who created everything is our Father and He wants us to have an amazing life.
That’s why He sent Jesus, so we could see Him in action. So we could know that especially during the difficult times, we can still imagine what it will be like when we get the desires of our hearts and how awesome it is that we have Him with us and He comes with us through to the other side. Notice in today’s verse it says that while we are hoping we will have joy and perfect peace, because we trust Him and that Holy Spirit is what generates that hope within us.
Today’s verse is everything Christmas is about, hope, joy, peace and trust in Jesus. He is the best Christmas gift we will ever receive, because everything good in life is wrapped up in Him!
