“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. Matthew 17:20
Most people who read this focus on “you don’t have enough faith” and the faith is about their faith. Yet Jesus goes on to say, if that faith is as small as a mustard seed we can move mountains. So why aren’t more mountains being moved then?
Mostly because it’s not speaking about our faith. Let’s face it our own faith will never be able to move anything let alone a mountain. Here Jesus is speaking about who our faith is in. Perhaps that’s why Galatians 2:20 says we now live by the faith OF the Son of God. That little word “of” means possession, belonging, origin. In other words, it’s Jesus’ faith that is working in us and it is so powerful that when it’s as small as a mustard seed it can move a mountain.
But here’s the issue, do we really believe we have His faith and are we drawing on it to accomplish what He has for us? Or are we thinking “we” don’t have enough faith. Let’s take today’s verse to heart and realize it’s only by believing that Jesus Spirit living in us gives us the power to move mountains and then only when we draw on it and not our own. How different would outcomes be if we only focused on Jesus rather than the outcome itself.
