And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 TPT
We often don’t think about it, but Jesus was in the midst of everything, the good, the controversial, the dirty, the beautiful, conflict and peace, joy and sorrow. Even in His crucifixion He was literally hanging in the midst.
Perhaps that’s why He gave thanks in all different circumstances. He gave thanks for the wisdom of God that hides things from the wise and clever, but reveals them to those with child like faith. Before He fed the 4,000 and the 5,000, He gave thanks for what little He had. Before He raised Lazarus from the dead and for His disciples and us in the Garden He thanked His Father that He always hears His prayers. When He sat down at the Passover table to have communion with them to remember the giving of Himself and the shedding of His blood; He broke the bread and took up the cup and gave thanks.
It makes me wonder, do we thank God for revealing Himself to us, even when we think we may not be the best educated? Do we thank Him for the little in the midst of our lack that He sees the need and that He is our Provider? When our dreams have died, or we’re overwhelmed with loss, do we thank Him for His comfort and restoration? In the midst of our most challenging times can we thank Him that He is our Savior and for His salvation? If we want to be honest, the answers will usually be no. Because in the midst of those things we find it hard to see the goodness of God. But Jesus didn’t, He could see beyond the limitations, lack, and impossibilities and saw the love of His Abba, as His Provider and the faithful keeper of promises made.
Perhaps when we become as thankful as Jesus was in the midst of all our circumstances, no matter what they are, then we too will see His results.
Transformation Thought: Isn’t it amazing how the Bread of Life was thankful for His daily bread provided by His Father.
