God is our shelter and our strength.
When troubles seem near, God is nearer, and He’s ready to help.
So why run and hide?
No fear, no pacing, no biting fingernails.
When the earth spins out of control, we are sure and fearless.
When mountains crumble and the waters run wild, we are sure and fearless.
Even in heavy winds and huge waves,
or as mountains shake, we are sure and fearless. Psalm 46:1-3 Voice
As we watch Erin disappear into the North Atlantic, all eyes on the East Coast are still feeling it’s effects on their shores. The storm may have been downgraded and moved on but it’s punch is still seen and watches and warnings have been activated. The waves produced are rough and some 20 feet high, which is very rare on the East Coast. But what is not seen is more of a concern. The undercurrents are so strong that a person standing on the beach within seconds can be caught off guard, have their legs taken out from under them and carried out to sea in a rip tide.
In a spiritual parallel it’s a visual to what sin can do to us. We can see the destructive nature of sin and we see it as far away from us. It looks like it’s moving away from us, although we still see and even feel it’s destructive nature. So we take precautions and perhaps even stay away from it all together. But its effects are lurking deep and unseen, hidden and waits to entrap us before we even know what happens. But when we walk with Jesus in His wisdom and discernment those dark and hidden areas are exposed by the Light of the world. As we read and meditate on His Word it is a lamp to lead and guide us. When we remember we have been given back our dominion over sin because we are forgiven and now the righteousness of God through Jesus, we can walk over whatever is trying to destroy us. How awesome and exciting is our relationship with the Lord?
How protected and blessed are we during times of trouble, upheaval and chaos. So the next time we are faced with unsettling and troubling things, let’s remember the lessons learned from hurricane Erin and know we can overcome whatever we are facing with the Lord.
