Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11
Who would ever think that the Bible would have a verse that uses the phrase time and chance happen to them all. When we read that our minds go to coincidence, random or luck. But with God there are no such things as coincidence or luck, so why is today’s verse saying that. It’s once again for lack of a better translation from the Hebrew into English and it has caused a lot of confusion for many people.
In the Hebrew when you put eth (time) and pega qarah (chance happening) together it doesn’t mean random happenings, but orchestrated right happenings. This is because the root word for pega is paga which actually means, intercession and prayer. This is confirmed in the first place it is used Genesis 23:8 and Isaiah 53:12. Qarah speaks of a divine appointment like the time Abraham’s servant prayed for a wife for Isaac ““Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful (qarah) today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.” Genesis 24:12
How awesome to know we can pray and ask Holy Spirit to actually guide us to the right place and/or right time in a situation in our lives and God is given all the glory. Beloved, let’s stop leaving so much in our lives up to chance and instead embrace this knowledge that God loves when we ask Him to guide us into divine appointments.
