“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Yesterday afternoon I felt a heaviness of heart and Holy Spirit telling me to pray. But I had no idea what I should be praying for, so I to follow the Spirit’s lead I prayed in the Spirit because He knew exactly what was happening. As I prayed the heaviness lifted and I not only sensed His presence but His peace.
When we follow the lead of Holy Spirit to pray, we may never know what or who we were praying for. But it reminded me of reading about how recording artist, music arranger and director Doris Akers wrote the worship song Sweet, Sweet, Spirit. She led the choir at her church and they always had a time of prayer before singing. One Sunday she was led to extend the time of prayer before the morning service, it went on so long, that she sent a message to the Pastor telling Him, the presence of the Lord was so viable that they had to continue a bit longer. But as she looked at the beautiful expressions on their faces, she told them they had to go, even though there was such “a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place.”
Right after she said it, she thought it would make a great song, but didn’t have time to write it down of think more about it. Until the next morning when the phrase came back to her again and she sat down at they piano and wrote Sweet, Sweet Spirit. Although Doris died in 1995, her song is still sung reminding us that as we pray and worship the Lord we are ushering His presence into wherever we are and we are so impacted by it that it causes us to respond with expressions of love, joy and peace. How much we should desire to meet the sweet, sweet Spirit of the Lord, lingering in His presence that it changes our minds, hearts and seen through the expression on our faces as we reflect His glory.
