Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
How many of us drive by the gas station in the morning and see the eye popping price of gas only to be surpassed on the way home. Lately it’s nothing for the price to jump ten cents sometimes in a day. Then panic sets in and the first thought is “how am I going to afford this?”
The reality of it is that even at ten cents per gallon increase, if you get ten gallons, that’s only another dollar! Most of us have that amount in change in our pockets, the bottom of our purses or the change keepers in our cars. It’s amazing how we don’t panic when we pay a dollar for a bottle of water that we can get for free from a faucet. Or four bucks for a specialty coffee.
Isn’t it amazing how Satan can corrupt our thinking? He can work us up into a frenzy just because we aren’t looking at things in the right perspective, we begin to feel helpless and hopeless and at the mercy of others. Yes, the cost of living in all areas of our lives has gone up compared to our incomes, but should we panic or just to make adjustments? Take time to think about all the people who no longer have a job for an income. Stop allowing what you see and feel to take you from a place of functioning to the paralysis of fear. Pray, ask God to help you find that extra few dollars you may need at the pump or the store. Then pray for those who need a new job. Thank Him for what you do have and not only material things. You will be surprised at how differently you begin to view things and in the process things in your life will begin to change because you no longer see only yourself and circumstances, you’re beginning to see your blessings and on your way to becoming an overcomer.
Just to drive this point home, consider the prices of these other fluids per gallon that people buy every day without complaint.
Lipton Iced Tea, 16 oz @ $1.19 = $9.52 per gallon
Diet Snapple, 16 oz @ $1.29 = $10.32 per gallon
Gatorade, 20 oz @ $1.59 = $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray, 16 oz @ $1.25 = $10.00 per gallon
Evian water, 9 oz @ $1.49 = $21.19 per gallon (!)
And of course Pepto-Bismol for our stomachs from the price of gas, 4 oz @ $3.85 = $123.20 per gallon
Puts things in perspective doesn’t it? When we keep our focus on our Source and Provider Father God, our perspective stays grounded and we remain secure in Who we know.
