“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. John 17:20-23
How important is unity in the Church? Jesus took time while preparing for His unfair trial, whipping and crucifixion to pray for all believers throughout history to see themselves as one, just as they see the God the Father and Jesus the Son being one. Working in unison to show the world the heart of the Father, just as Jesus came to show us our Father’s heart. Twice in this passage Jesus says that our unity will show the world that God is real and how much He loves us.
Why would unity be so powerful? Well, look around, there is disunity and division everywhere! It’s in nations, states, communities, businesses, homes and unfortunately in the church. That is exactly why it’s so important for Believers because it’s unnatural for mankind. It is only through the working of Holy Spirit in our lives that we can achieve it. And yet, we’re having a difficult time influencing the world when we ourselves are having such a difficult time being united.
Although today is our last day for our 30 day revival challenge, we’re going to continue now looking at how we can keep revival flowing in these days of such need of the Savior’s touch. Tomorrow we will begin to look at how we can become a better influence to the world so they will see the amazing Father we love and adore and introduce them to His Son Jesus Christ.
