The people who walk in darkness
will see a great light.
For those who live in a land of deep darkness,
a light will shine. Isaiah 9:2
Last night at sundown Jewish homes all over the world lit the first candle on Hanukkah Menorah which has nine candle holders instead of the seven like the Temple Menorah. Eight of the candles represents a day that God provided the Temple oil to keep the lamp lit and the one is the lighter candle that is used to light one every day.
Only having one days worth of oil, the Maccabees took the step of faith to light the Menorah believing God would make a way where there seemed to be no way. And every day after that was another step of trusting that God would provide. But they never would have seen the miracle of the self replenishing oil if they wouldn’t have stepped out and lit all seven of the lamps on the Menorah.
So I need to ask you, what are you fearful of stepping out into? Perhaps it’s a new job, or to go deeper into your study of the Bible. Maybe it’s making a large purchase or another life changing decision. But one thing is for sure nothing will happen until you spend time with the Lord and seek His direction, then step out into His leading. A light helps us see what we are looking for, especially things we have lost. Have you lost hope through times of disappointment or hardship? Seeing a light in the darkness gives us comfort and hope. And when Jesus Himself is the Light He will lead and guide you in the way to go.
Whatever darkness you might be in right now, just ask Holy Spirit to fan the flame in you, spend time in His presence with an open heart and mind and then listen for Him to speak. But also ask Him to prepare and expand you to receive all He has to pour into you and change you from glory to glory. And as He leads take His hand and step out into His provision and grace.
