God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. Genesis 1:16
The other night was a Supermoon a Harvest Moon and Hunter’s Moon and there is an astronomical reason for each of those names. But as I stood and looked at the beautiful moon casting its light across the field I kept thinking about todays verse of two great lights, a larger and smaller one.
It made me think about how Jesus came as a great light in a very dark time and the light He brought can never be extinguished (John 1:5). Then before He left this earth He told us that Believers would now be the light and we were placed here, at this another time of darkness. We are to be a shinning city on a hill (Matt. 5:14) so all can see Jesus as He truly is. And the darker the world becomes the brighter and larger we need to become to draw people’s attention to how much God loves them and shows them the way to the cross. So next time you see the moon lit up in all it’s glory and brightness, remember it’s a picture of you lighting up the darkness and until we leave this world the light will burn bright!
