Once your life was full of sin’s darkness, but now you have the very light of our Lord shining through you because of your union with him. Your mission is to live as children flooded with his revelation-light! Ephesians 5:8 TPT
I love when I know my mission for something, it makes it so much easier to accomplish when I know my purpose. Today’s verse gives us a mission and it is to live as children flooded with His revelation-light. This light has a 2 fold purpose, first to show us as Believers things in our lives that still need to be transformed. And for others to see Jesus in us, so they too will want to have their lives transformed.
The best way to explain this is with gemstones. Those beautiful sparkling colored stones that catch our attention and look at in the jewelry store, once looked like an everyday, ordinary stone. Sure depending on what type of gem it is may make it look different, but none are beautiful in their rough state. Once a gemstone rock is found it goes through a process, everything on the outside that is keeping its beauty hidden is removed. Then the gem is places into a gem tumbler with water to cleanse it and help smooth it. When it finally reaches a point that a master gem cutter can see shapes and inner beauty, it’s then cut into various shapes and the final step is to facet it to reveal its hidden “fire”. It now reflects and refracts the light and shows beautiful colors that are eye catching and intriguing.
We are like these stones, as a matter of fact 1 Peter 2:5 tells us that we are living stones. When we accept God’s gift of salvation, God picks us up and begins to remove things like guilt, shame and unforgiveness because Jesus took them on Himself and they are no longer ours. As we walk with Jesus He begins to be our “tumbler and water”, and although at times it may seem hurtful and irritating, He continues to remove all the rough places, the things that are hindering our true beauty. His light begins to help us see ourselves differently, not as circumstances and people say we are, but as He says we are. Then He goes deeper, He begins to take our deep flaws, and overcomes these imperfections by faceting us deep within, so that His light when it shines through us, shows us places that need His touch and as we reflect all that He is through us. People will see what a loving, gracious, merciful and forgiving Father we have and they will want they beauty they see in us through the changes He alone can make.
It’s time we begin to live like the precious jewels our Heavenly Father made us to be. Let His revelation-light shine in us to show us what needs to be removed to give us greater brilliance and to show the beauty He has created in us to others so they will want it too.
