Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Too often when we pray all we can think about is the answer to what we are asking the Lord for. And usually it’s something we are in need of, that’s why we pray with great urgency and passion. One thing we don’t think about is that as much as we want prayer to change things, if we quiet ourselves enough and truly listen we will begin to experience and see that praying is actually changing us.
We fail to see prayer as a process that is showing us what is hindering our relationship with the Lord, how to solve problems, patience, problem solving, etc. just to name a few. It is a process that transforms us more and more into God’s image and helps us learn and fulfil our callings. The other day I heard a wonderful saying from Sean Cannel that helps us visualize how important prayer is to spiritual growth.
Transforming prayer is when your prayer is for a table, and God gives you an ax so when you find the tree the table is in you can cut it down and create the table you need. If you’re like me, I never heard it put like that before, but that statement sure left its mark on me and I will never look at prayer that takes long to be answered the same again. Don’t fight the process, let Holy Spirit have His way in you and in time, you will not only have the answer to your prayer, but you will have a renewed mind and heart and will have become more like Jesus.
