But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
The other day I was looking for a book and found one I even forgot I had. It’s called the Sacrifice of Praise and it’s the stories behind some of the greatest worship songs from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. So for a bit we’re going to have Worship Wednesday Devotions. For some it will bring back memories, for others it will be new, but hopefully you’ll go to YouTube and listen to that weeks song and enjoy.
Karen Lafferty grew up going to the local Baptist Church in New Mexico and accepted Jesus as her Savior. She loved music and learned to play multiple instruments and sing. But in College she began to drift away from the Lord. But a childhood friend was very involved in Campus Crusade and when they reconnected, it wasn’t long until Karen wanted what she had, a deep relationship with Jesus.
Her love of music drove her to make the life decision to not only know Jesus as her Savior but also made Him her Lord. Soon after she attended a Campus Crusade Music Conference seeking to know how to best use her musical gifts for the Lord. She was lead to California where the Conference had been held and she prayed to meet a group of Christian musicians, and God answered her prayer. Life was not easy, but it was fulfilling.
As she attended a weekly Bible Study during a stressful time, the focus was on today’s verse. Karen was impacted by the thought of seeking Jesus above all else and how His righteousness has changed her, then all the other stuff in life would be added. She took it to heart, so much so she began to build a tune around it and within the week she was teaching it to her Bible Study group. The tune was so memorable it spread to other Bible Studies, and we’re still singing it today and it’s still impacting lives for Jesus. As she put it, she got home and the bills still weren’t paid, but her joy had come back just thinking about focusing on Jesus. Karen learned how when we focus on Jesus first, instead of focusing on our circumstances and issues, we will walk in His ways and He will show Himself to be faithful in our lives. What about you? Do you believe that trusting in Jesus, will help us see Him meet our needs? When y doubt or need a reminder you can remind yourself to keep looking to Him by singing, Seek ye first the kingdom of God, And His righteousness, And all these things will be added unto you, Allelu, alleluia.
