Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Luke 24:44-45
Over the past few days, we have been seeing how Jesus has been preparing His disciples for His leaving them to go back to His Father. They were living in fear behind locked doors even after Jesus appeared to them on Resurrection evening and at times during the week. They were still in lock down come the following Sunday, when once again Jesus appeared to them behind locked doors.
When He met with them He blessed them with peace and helped them on both occasions to dispel their doubts. This led to trusting Him and all He had told them before He died and rose again. All these things together opened their minds to better understand the Scriptures and who He is. It was an act of love also for us, because now we too can see Jesus better in the Scriptures and learn more about Him. This deepens our relationship with Him and in turn transforms our hearts and minds. May we never forget the blessing Jesus spoke to Thomas when He showed Himself to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” How blessed we truly are.
