Give to everyone what you owe them. Do you owe taxes? Then pay them. Do you owe anything else to the government? Then pay it. Do you owe respect? Then give it. Do you owe honor? Then show it. Romans 13:7 NIRV
Today we celebrate Memorial Day, a day to remember all those who serve in the Military and our First Responders and especially those who paid the ultimate price with their very lives. My grandmother used to call it Decoration Day, because it began when women would decorate the cemetery’s and graves of those who lost their live during the Civil War. So naturally I thought this day was just to remember those who died in battle for our nation. But as I learned more about it, I realized there were many ways to sacrifice other than dying.
So may of our Service people and First Responders become disabled running into the danger and chaos the rest of us are running away from. In so doing they sacrificed ever realizing or living out their hopes and dreams of the life they planned. Not only do we need to honor those who died in Service and their families living with their loss. But we need to show respect and give honor to those who came back home alive, but their lives were impacted and changed forever.
We owe them a debt of gratitude because without them we might not be living in the land of the free. But we do because of the brave and courageous. Just as they are so willing to run into the chaos, may we as the church run into the darkness with the marvelous light that lives inside of us and bring hope and help and show them Jesus and His love for them. Today take time to thank God for their bravery and pray for them and our nation.
Beginning today until July 4 we encourage you to join CBN in 40 Days of Prayer for our nation. Just go to prayforamerica.com for daily devotionals, videos and extra bonus materials.
