The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. Exodus 13:21
Today at sundown the Jewish Harvest Festival of Sukkot begins and ends at sundown October 2. It is seven days of celebrating God’s protection and provision during their time from Egypt to the Promised Land. Many Jews, build shelters that have three sides and a roof where at the very least they eat their meals. However, many even sleep in them, so they also pray every morning portions of Psalm 113-118 daily. Today however, especially in the US follow Sukkot traditions indoors.
How many of us would have a difficult time living in our backyards in shelters and give up our modern day amenities for a week! But honestly, it could be the best thing that could happen to us. It is a time of cut out a time away from all the distractions of the world and focus on God, by praying His Word, eating only fresh foods consisting mainly of vegetables and fruits and just celebrating God’s protection and provision.
Although we may not go as far as building a backyard shelter, over the next seven days we can pray Psalms 113-118 and we can celebrate our Abba’s protection and provision for us. After all, we can never worship and praise the Lord too much, because He inhabits our praises.
