Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question: “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” Matthew 22:41-42
From the time Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the religious leaders were barraging Him with questions about everything and anything. But Jesus stopped them one day by asking a question Himself. That question is found in todays Scripture asking them who did they think the Messiah was.
Their answer showed how the enemy had blinded them to the One who was standing before them and asking the question. If anyone should be able to identify the Messiah it should have been the Jewish leaders. But instead of answering with a confident, the Son of God, they said Jesus was the Son of David.
Now although Jesus was brought forth into this world by the line of David who both Mary and Joseph belonged to. But as the long awaited Messiah, their answer should have been the Son of God. Their answer revealed they really didn’t understand or know who Jesus was. And when He asked them if David called Him Lord in Psalm 110:1 how could David be His father, they had no answer for Him. And better yet, they didn’t question Him anymore.
This shows how important it is to know more than the facts and have knowledge of Him. In order for us to enjoy the benefits of His salvation. We have to declare and believe in our hearts He is the Son of the Living God. The One Who is and was and is yet to come again. The One who wants a personal relationship with us so that we can become more like Him.
Transformation Thought: Knowledge alone will never be enough to enter into a relationship with Jesus. You have to believe He is the Son of God.
