The Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us because he understands good and evil. So we must not let him take fruit from the tree that gives life. If he eats that fruit, he will live for ever.’ So the Lord God sent Adam out of the Garden of Eden. To get his food, Adam had to dig the ground that God had used to make him. Genesis 3:23-24 EASY
Most of us were taught God threw of “banished” Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden as punishment for disobeying and eating from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. But is that what really happened? Was that what God wanted them to know?
When you really look at today’s Scripture, there might be a different reason. A loving reason instead of one of punishment. Out of His heart of love and mercy God saw something different, He now saw His beautiful family having a very different life than He intended. Now they would be able to know the pain and destruction that evil would bring into their lives. How it would bring condemnation, guilt, shame and a kink in their relationship. Ultimately it would bring the first murder of their own child, and that was just the beginning.
Now think about how you’ve felt when you know you’ve sinned. Think about all the evil that is happening around us. Now think about having no way out, just living forever and evil just keeping on multiplying and it never stopping. So as difficult as death is to deal with, it actually was a very merciful act, because in it He made a plan to redeem mankind back again through His Son Jesus Christ. Yes, they couldn’t be in the Garden anymore and now they were experiencing the consequences of sin. And although their relationship with God was different it still was there along with His love and grace. Grace just like he gives us today, along with the gift of eternal life through Jesus that was lost through the fall. How can we not praise the Lord for His goodness, kindness and power in defeating the enemy. So let’s take every opportunity to give Him all the glory and honor.
