So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” Mark 9:29
Yesterday we dug deep into the deliverance of the demon possessed boy whose father took to the disciples. But after the disciples couldn’t cast it out of him, he took him to Jesus, and He delivered him (Mark 9:14-31). We focused on what causes our unbelief even though we may believe. In this case it was quarrelling, the demon throwing the boy down in front of Jesus and the years of disappointment of being possessed that brought unbelief.
And although that is so true and we need to constantly be aware of the distractions the enemy uses to steal from us. Jesus taught something greater, the reason He was the only one not affected by all the distractions and unbelief is because of today’s Scripture. He had such a close and powerful relationship with His Father, nothing He heard, saw or felt changed what He knew; not only Who He is, but whose He is. And He knew Him and His Father are One, just as He wants us to be one with them.
The power of two in agreement is seen here, and when we come into agreement with Jesus, nothing will be impossible for us. Including making the devil flee no matter how he’s trying to destroy and steal from us. Prayer is first and foremost a privilege of the children of God whose relationship has been restored with Him. It’s our way of communicating and enjoying His presence in our lives. Perhaps we should make it more of a priority to talk with Jesus like we would sit down with a cup of coffee with a dear friend. And then we can watch and experience the power over the enemy just as Jesus showed us and live the abundant life He died to give us.
