And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:7
Today we get to make a difference not only for us as individuals and personally, but as parts of neighborhoods, churches, communities, towns, counties, states, our nation and the entire world! That’s how influential every person is who has registered to vote. Some people will vote their conscience, others for a party, still others for an individual or personality or agenda.
But those that know Jesus know it’s not about any of those things, this vote is about doing God’s will by living with Him so His purpose is done on earth, just as it is in heaven. it’s not about this earthly government, it’s about, but God’s Kingdom. It’s about what today’s verse tells us, that we need to work and vote towards peace and prosperity of where we live, because its welfare will determine ours.
When doing research for a sermon I came across a quote by President Gerald Ford he said before a joint session of Congress and I can’t get it out of my mind;“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.” The truth of that statement reinforces and drives home the point of how important it is to center our lives on Jesus and His Kingdom, which is what He preached while here on earth. Now that thought brings a peace that is truly beyond all understanding.
