The Lord is close to the brokenhearted,
and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed. Psalm 34:18 NCV
Most of us have seen the horrendous pictures and images of the California wild fires. The drought, low humidity and the Santa Ana winds have worked together with fire at several locations to burn paths of destruction and death. The quick spreading of these fires has caused other catastrophes like roads blocked by cars trying to escape the flames because of no visibility and water supplies to fight the fires running low. Can you imagine the panic that they must have felt realizing they were trapped?
As I listened to the reports I couldn’t help but pray for everyone affected. Not only for their safety, but also for their hopelessness they must be feeling and experiencing. There are many broken hearts especially for those families who lost loved ones, along with dreams, jobs and life’s work that crushes ones spirit. And the only One who can heal a broken heart and restore a crushed spirit is Jesus. So let’s also pray for that in the midst of all this loss they would remember that Jesus is there with them. And for those who don’t know Him that He would reveal Himself so they will see His salvation. In other words, pray for others as you would want them to pray for you in that same situation.
May we continue to pray for all those fighting the fires and serving all those who are in harms way.
