Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “Very many people are coming against you”. . . Jehoshaphat was afraid and decided to call on the Lord. 2 Chronicles 20:2a, 3a
. 2 Chronicles 20 tells us the nation of Judah was set to be attacked by several different enemies who wanted to destroy them. Jehoshaphat the king was rightly afraid and then he made the wise choice to call on God for help and asked all the people to join him in prayer. They knew they were in serious trouble and their only hope was God.
Likewise most citizens of the United States would agree we are in serious trouble. It seems the more we look to our society and politics for answers the more confusing things become. Instead of solving the problems, we seem to be compounding them. Perhaps it’s because we have not identified the true enemies that seek to destroy us and our way of life. We too often lash out at a person, groups of people or a political party accusing them of undermining what this nation truly stands for. But could it be the enemy of all? The one who comes to steal, kill and destroy according to John 10:10. Is he using one of the oldest tricks in the book, deception so that we turn against one another and in essence destroy ourselves? After all, one of Satan’s names is the Great Deceiver.
Could it be he is keeping us so distracted by all the noise and confusion going on around us that we’re forgetting who is really causing all the chaos with lies and deception causing a blinding darkness. The only Light that can dispel this kind of darkness is Jesus Himself. What if we stopped looking around and wondering what else we can do and cry out like Jehoshaphat, O Lord, we don’t know what to do, but our eyes are upon You (20:12). And then they began to worship and praise the Lord, and as God told them, they didn’t have to lift a weapon, for God did the fighting for them. All our knowledge and human understanding is no match against the Satan’s deceptions, but on the other hand his deceptions are no match against our God. Let us pray for the Light of Jesus to breakthrough the deceptions and shine on the truth for all to see.
