Monday afternoon God gave me an opportunity to practice asking and then listening for Him to speak. I came home and when I took my coat off, it felt cool. But the heat was running but when I placed my hand over the vent the air coming out was cool. So I went into the basement and sure enough the operation panel on the boiler was blinking an error code. So I looked in the Usage Manual for the code and it said it was a combustion error and how to troubleshoot.
As I read over what could be wrong there was only one that would apply and it was restricted air flow. So as I stood in front of the panel book in hand, I had a choice, I could call for help, or I could listen to my own sermon and go to His Throne instead of the phone. So I looked for more information in the manual and it said to turn the unit off and wait a while then turn it back on and it should reset. I did, but it didn’t. So I made sure I had propane, then I said, “God, I was reminded that You know everything about everything, I checked everything the book told me to and it didn’t work. But I believe You know what’s wrong and how to fix it. So I will sit here in silence waiting for you to tell me what to do.” I also reminded Him of all the people I heard who asked Him for help in situations like this and if He did it for them, He’ll do it for me. Not for any other reason, except that I His child asked believing He actually knew what to do.
So I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat on the basement steps for half an hour waiting in silence. As I sat quietly, He directed me to place my hands on two places on the heating system and pray in the Spirit and I did. As I opened my eyes, I read on the vent pipe “out” and He directed me to go outside to the vent and clean out the air intake vent. He even provided the tool I needed to reach inside the outside part. Out came these white fuzzy clumps. When I went to try to clean out the inner part it was too small and I heard blow in it. So I did and something came flying out like powder. Then as directed I trimmed branches of the Lilac tree by the vent. As I cut the last one off, I asked if there was anything else I needed to do. Just go inside and turn on the heat. It went in and soon the warm air began to flow.
I was so excited. I was singing, dancing and praising Him not only for fixing the heat, but for teaching me the blessing of asking Him for help with anything, listening for His directives and learning to wait. And He just kept showing Himself to me in amazing ways for the rest of the night. I’m telling you all this because if we want to see the gifts, abilities and power activated in our lives, we need to begin to use them so we can see them manifest and develop them. Some times we will fail, but then we just ask the Spirit to show us how to use it better. Using all the gifts that Jesus died to give us is the best thank you we can ever give Him for others get to see Him in all His honor and glory!
