But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19
Another Christmas is past, and just like in the movie Christmas Story, the day ended for many with people sitting by the tree in a quiet house pondering the 2024 Christmas season. Can you imagine what thoughts must have been going through Mary’s mind as she pondered the events of the past nine months?
Just like with us, looking back over this past season there were some good time, bad times, and in between times. And we can’t forget about about the many “I don’t understand” times. Yet at the end of that first Christmas Day Mary was pondering all that has happened. The Greek word for ponder means to meet and join; to revolve around in the mind. Can you imagine all the dots that were connected that brought clarity and answers on that night.
Perhaps this Christmas season you are going through a difficult time, or a time when nothing seems to make sense. Or maybe it was one of the best Christmas times ever and you never want it to stop, but either way you’re joining things and revolving them around in your mind. The question is how do you want to ponder them? Do you want to think like the enemy who is trying to destroy you, or are you going to think about them with the mind of Christ and see every event through the eyes of God? Let’s take a lesson from Mary, who pondered everything through the mind and eyes of God and saw His heart. Today’s verse reminds us she didn’t ponder with just her mind, but with her heart. That same heart that said “let it be done to me as you have said” and she gave birth to the Savior of the world. Now ask Holy Spirit to help you see what God is trying to birth in you.
